House on Block Island Sound

The family members of this Queen Anne shingle style house were very interested in restoring their summer house and furnishings to its original 1870 period.

Layers of paint had to be removed from most of the woodwork to expose the original sycamore and oak paneling, doors, and casings. We suggested a William Morris wallpaper in the dining room, which struck a cord, and the rest of the palette followed it's direction. Soft greens, blues and rusts were employed in a variety of fabrics and paint colors throughout the house. A look under layers of slipcovers revealed original tufted sofas and chairs that could be reupholstered. Although the upper floor had been unused for years, a careful survey revealed a number of wicker armchairs which were gathered together in the circle of the sun porch, from which expansive water views can be enjoyed.

Proudly restored, this house now serves as a gracious and comfortable Summer retreat.
