Westchester Residence

A young couple and growing family purchased this 1910 Italianate Villa with the thought of creating a new home where they could also entertain. "We want rooms that will allow us to feel comfortable whether having a quiet dinner with the family, or serving cocktails for sixty five".

Although the main rooms of this house were built large enough to host grand soirées, the thrifty original owner didn't see the sense in wasting space on high ceilings. Faced with this dilemma, we opted for additional perimeter moulding colors and tromp l'oeil wallpaper borders on the ceiling to give the illusion of bigger mouldings and greater height. We used rich patterned carpets and fabrics to enliven the rooms and enhance the sense of tradition, while distracting from the low ceilings.

A stylish update continues the tradition in this historic house.
